Can individual susceptibility to dietary starch be evaluated in blood ?
Résumé
Several studies reported that starch susceptibility differs among horses, suggesting that some are more likely to develop colic. It is known that daily fluctuations of hindgut microbial fermentation vary depending on whether horses are fed high-starch or high-fiber diets. We hypothesized that these fluctuations could be larger in starch susceptible horses and could impact daily variations of some blood parameters. This study assessed correlations of daily fluctuations in cecum and right ventral (RV) colon microbial measurements to that of blood parameters.
